As defined by the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), a medical group practice is a legal entity (such as a partnership, professional corporation or foundation) in which three or more physicians practice medicine and share resources, such as clinical and administrative facilities, records and personnel. The MGMA, based in Englewood Colo., represents 21,000 physician executives and medical group practice managers in 12,500 organizations with 270,000 physicians nationwide.
