Eichler homes represent a style of Modernist architecture typified by an open floor plan and floor to ceiling glass walls that served to blur the line between outdoor and indoor living, creating a distinctive home known as "California Modern". Many homes built by Joseph Eichler were tract homes, although he also built custom homes and some condominiums. Eichlers can be found in several Bay Area and San Francisco neighborhoods, including single-family homes in Diamond Heights, a condominium building in Russian Hill, and a condo complex in the Western Addition.
