James Ridinger and Market America recently donated $10,000 to the Undergraduate Minor in Entrepreneurship in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Market America, Inc. president and CEO James Ridinger announced today that the company donated $10,000 to the Undergraduate Minor in Entrepreneurship in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The donation is part of an endowment the company has set up at UNC-Chapel Hill.

"UNC-Chapel Hill has been recognized by Entrepreneur Magazine as having one of the top entrepreneur study programs in the country," said James (JR) Ridinger, president and CEO of Market America. "Market America has been successful in large part because we encourage our Distributor's to think independently and become entrepreneurs themselves through their UnFranchiseā„¢ business."

James Ridinger started Market America from a modest two story home in Greensboro, NC with just a handful of employees in 1992. Nearly sixteen years later, the company has grown to over 500 employees in five countries and is projected to become a billion dollar corporation in the next two years. Among the innovative initiatives implemented by James Ridinger since the company was founded is the UnFranchise Business System, which provides Market America's Distributors with the benefits and support of franchising without the weaknesses like fees, monthly royalties and territorial restrictions.

In February of 2007 Market America redesigned marketamerica.com to become the "ultimate shopping destination," according to James Ridinger. The company partnered with thousands of partner stores such as Target, The Home Depot, Best Buy, and Wal-Mart to offer an endless shopping experience with millions of products offered that can easily be searched through advanced search technology within the site. Market America also offers hundreds of exclusive products from a number of categories including health and nutrition, cosmetics, anti-aging, and telecommunications.

It's the success that Market America has encountered that makes James Ridinger such an advocate for entrepreneurial programs like the one at UNC-Chapel Hill. "Entrepreneurship is the backbone of the US economy and from personal experience I can attest that exposing ones self to owning a successful business will only improve ones creativity and drive and will allow these leaders of tomorrow to take control of their own lives," said Ridinger. "Market America will continue to support programs that seek to teach and encourage dialogue about the challenges and benefits associated with being an entrepreneur."
