Financial Management Solutions (FMS, Inc.) and The National Grocers Association (N.G.A.) announce call for participation in the 2008 Independent Operator Survey.

FMS, Inc. and the N.G.A. announce the launch of the 2008 Independent Operators Survey this week. Survey questions will be sent to hundreds of participating independent operators in the grocery and supermarket industry across the United States to be compiled and analyzed by FMS, Inc. The survey results will be released in June, 2008.

Frank DiPasquale, Senior Vice President of the N.G.A. commented, "It will be important to watch how the retail grocery and food industry will use its successes of last year to launch itself forward in today's environment. With the recent shake up in the industry, new business opportunities may become available and competitors may grow stronger and fiercer as a result. In addition, even with the increased number of supercenters and specialty stores; the 2007 survey showed the independent community focused retailer is alive and healthy."

The ground-breaking survey, in existence since 2002, is designed to help independent retail grocers and independent supermarkets better understand how their store operations compare with national averages and other retailers of similar size. In addition to financial and accounting benchmarking, the survey also focuses on economic factors and key political issues impacting the independent retail grocery and supermarket industry.

FMS Solutions' Vice President, Bob Graybill stated, "response to this survey has been overwhelming and we are proud to have offered this valuable service for independent retail grocers for the past 5 years. The input has been very insightful. We have designed the survey to be as relevant and useful to our target market as possible by addressing the top issues rated by Independent Grocers which in the past have included Health Care, Minimum Wage, Taxes and Tax Policy, Supercenters, Labor/Employment and Interchange Fees."

Interested participants can sign up for the 2008 Independent Operator Survey by going directly to the FMS Solutions website http://www.fmssolutions.com/forms/survey_part.php. All participants receive a complimentary copy of the results' analysis.

About The National Grocers Association: The N.G.A. is the national trade association representing the retail and wholesale grocers that comprise the independent sector of the food distribution industry. An independent retailer is a privately owned or controlled food retail company operating a variety of formats. Most independent operators are serviced by wholesale distributors, while others may be partially or fully self-distributing. Some are publicly traded but with controlling shares held by the family and others are employee owned. Independents are the true "entrepreneurs" of the grocery industry and dedicated to their customers, associates, and communities. N.G.A. members include retail and wholesale grocers, state grocers associations, as well as manufacturers and service suppliers.
