U.S. News & World Report's Cover Story Reports that "Alternative Medicine Goes Mainstream" ... 7 Steps to Your Best Possible Healthcare Book Provides More Insight

Author Dr. Ruthann Russo addresses recent focus on alternative medicine as highlighted in U.S. News story

Bethlehem, PA (PRWEB) January 23, 2008 -- In its most recent issue, the U.S. News & World Report addresses alternative medicine. The cover states, "Top hospitals are now embracing such unconventional techniques as acupuncture, homeopathy, and energy healing." The article reports that recognized leaders in medicine such as the Mayo Clinic, Duke University Medical Center and the University of California-San Francisco offer acupuncture, massage and other Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) services.

In her new book, 7 Steps to Your Best Possible Healthcare, Dr. Ruthann Russo dedicates an entire chapter to Complimentary, Alternative and Naturopathic medicine. Russo takes a conventional approach to the unconventional by introducing readers first to several well known and well respected mainstream physicians who support and practice CAM. Among them are Dr. Ronald Hoffman, Dr. Mehmet Oz, and Dr. Christiane Northrup. Russo also describes Naturopathic Medical Schools (there are four in the country) and the 14 states that currently license naturopaths (NDs) as primary care physicians. With the increased acceptance of CAM and the shortage of primary care physicians, perhaps more states may be in line to license naturopathic doctors.

Russo describes the five major types of complimentary and alternative therapy: (1) Whole Medical Systems (like Chinese or Indian (Ayurveda) medicine) (2) Mind-Body medicine, like meditation (3) Biologically-based practices, like herbal medicine (4) Manipulative and Body-based practices, like chiropractic medicine, and (5) Energy Medicine, like Reiki and Quigong. She also provides a check list to use when deciding how and when to use CAM.

The 7 Steps book is an essential guide for crafting your own personal health plan. It identifies and provides tools and suggestions for healthcare consumers to navigate their way through the U.S. healthcare system. Dr. Russo has written five books used by managers in the healthcare industry. Hospitals throughout the country use her training programs to assist their physicians and clinicians in providing quality care to their patients.
