Blue River Building Niche Social Network Platform for the New BiteClub.com

Blue River Interactive Group announced today that the Sacramento-based company is building the next generation of BiteClub.com, due to launch in February. To create the niche social network platform for BiteClub.com, Blue River and BiteClub have culled the best features of larger social networking sites and knitted them into a cohesive, easy-to-use environment.

Blue River Interactive Group announced today that the Sacramento-based company is building the next generation of BiteClub.com, due to launch in February.

BiteClub.com, co-founded by Sonny Mayugba, Randy Paragary and Mark Braden, is a vertical social networking site for members of the restaurant and bar industry. The new venture, which launched in beta in May 2007, recently received a $500,000 investment from veteran restauranteur Larry Mindel, of Il Fornaio; Darius Anderson, of Kenwood Investments and Platinum Advisors; and select industry insiders for site improvements and custom software applications, as well as marketing and content acquisition.

"BiteClub's concept is both timely and relevant, which is why it's already generating strong buzz in the social networking and venture capital communities," said Blue River CEO Malcolm O'Keeffe. "More and more people are turning to niche social networks, where they can find entire communities centered around their interests."

To create the niche social network platform for BiteClub.com, Blue River and BiteClub culled the best features of larger social networking sites and knitted them into a cohesive, easy-to-use environment.

"We wanted to encourage visitors to 'play' with BiteClub," said Jeff Winter, a user-experience expert for Blue River. "We're designing an experience that parallels the fun, relaxed culture of the restaurant and bar industry."

Soon BiteClub.com users will be able to create individual, place and product profiles; set up groups; upload video, photos, news stories, events and blog posts; get the insider scoop on restaurants and bars; search for jobs and more. The site will also feature Digg-style voting on all site content, giving users an easy way to see and find interesting content.
