www.inspiringholidays.com aims to be a treasure-trove of interesting, unusual and downright inspiring holidays. Although recently launched the site already features such gems as a bell ringing holiday in Wales, a walking holiday in Madeira, a salsa dance holiday in Cuba and a cycling holiday in Cambodia plus hundreds of other activity holidays and short breaks.
Features on the website include a comprehensive search facility, bookmarking function, newsletter sign-up, special offers plus various different grades of listings displayed. There's also a unique 'Be Inspired' page which aims to help provide inspiration those people who know they want to do something different but aren't sure what.
The website is the brain-child of former tourism and marketing manager, Robert Green. He explained the rationale behind www.inspiringholidays.com:
"Over recent years we've seen a big shift in the type of holidays people take. It's no longer just about a two week break in Spain to crash out on the beach. More and more people are opting for holidays that inspire them -- whether it's to learn a new skill or practise an existing hobby or interest."
"Increasingly the question is "what do we want to do, rather than where shall we go?" So we set up www.inspiringholidays.com to help provide an accessible, easy to navigate source of activity holidays from around the world. We feature everything from painting holidays and great train journeys to ski holidays, walking holidays, cycling holidays and more"
This approach is backed up by research which suggests a change in the motivations behind holidays and vacations:
