5th Annual Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign

Infidelity expert Ruth Houston announces the 5th annual Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign. This year's theme is How to Catch a Cheater on Valentine's Day.

(PRWEB) January 31, 2008 -- The 2008 Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign is now underway.

Every February, New York infidelity expert Ruth Houston, wages a campaign to call attention to an aspect of Valentine's Day that affects millions of people, but seldom gets talked about :

Valentine's Day is peak season for infidelity and extramarital affairs.

This is the time of the year when most cheating spouses and significant others will be contacting their secret lovers to give or receive Valentine's Day gifts. The Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign focuses attention on this fact, and tells the millions of infidelity victims how to use this to their advantage.

The Campaign's 3-fold Purpose

Houston, an author and internationally-recognized infidelity expert who is frequently called on by the media to comment on infidelity issues in the news, describesthe Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign has a 3-fold purpose.

  • to heighten public awareness of the connection between infidelity and Valentine's Day
  • to encourage print, broadcast, and online media outlets to do stories, sidebars, or segments on this seldom-discussed side of Valentine's Day
  • and to alert spouses and significant others who suspect infidelity that Valentine's Day is the best time to get tangible proof of an affair, or catch a cheating mate.

The campaign is now in its fifth year. The 2008 theme is How to Catch a Cheater on Valentine's Day.

Previous year's themes have included "Valentine's Day Signs of a Workplace Affair (2007), Valentine's Day is the Best Time to Catch a Cheating Mate ( 2006), How Valentine's Day Gifts Can Expose a Cheating Mate (2005), and Is Your Valentine the Cheating Kind? (2004).

Infidelity Statistics Show a Need for an Infidelity Awareness Campaign

"We're in the midst of an infidelity epidemic, " says Houston, but people don't normally associate infidelity with Valentine's Day. It's supposed to be the most romantic day of the year. But the seasonal surge of infidelity is a very real side of Valentine's Day that most people are unaware of, and others are strangely reluctant to talk about. Yet it affects millions of people everyday. The statistics are over the top. An estimated 50% to 70% of Americans are victims of infidelity. Factor in emotional infidelity, cyber infidelity, same-sex infidelity and female infidelity, and you have an estimated 80% to 85% of all marriages and committed relationships being affected by some form of infidelity. Yet most infidelity victims have no idea their partner is having an affair. Those who suspect are often frustrated in their attempts to get proof."

  • In one study, 70% of married women and 54% of married men had no idea their spouse was having an extramarital affair.
  • In another study, 60% of the cheating spouses said their partner did not know about their affair.
  • The 2007 iVillage / MSNBC Lust, Love and Loyalty survey revealed that less than 30% of cheaters get caught."
  • In the 2007 The Woman's Day / AOL poll, 31% of the wives suspected their husbands of cheating but were unable to get any real proof.

Valentine's Day - the Ideal Time to Catch a Cheating Mate

Houston, the founder of InfidelityAdvice.com and author of Is He Cheating on You? - 829 Telltale Signs, explains why Valentine's Day is the best time to catch a cheating mate. "The National Retail Federation predicts that Americans will spend over $17 billion on Valentine's gifts this year. A significant amount of that money will be spent by cheaters buying gifts for their secret lovers. Whether bought with cash, check or credit card the purchase will leave a paper trail. Since most of these gifts will be delivered in person, there's an opportunity to catch the cheater in the act. Now is the time when anyone who suspects infidelity can get tangible proof of an affair. For private investigators who specialize in infidelity investigations, this is one of the busiest times of the year. However, suspicious spouses can easily find proof on their own. There are specific signs of infidelity that typically appear around Valentine's Day. Knowing what to look for is the key."

Houston, who was once an infidelity victim herself, says, "I want to enlist the media's help in telling infidelity victims everywhere 'Now is the time to catch your cheating mate.' If more cheaters were caught, it would discourage more people from having affairs."
