Universe Point, the monitored backup software company, is proud to announce the release of ION version 2.0. The new release represents several major enhancements in features and functionality.
"We see this release as real evidence of our ability to respond to the needs of our users and partners," says CEO Jeff Snader, "The enhancements made to ION in this release come directly from the conversations we have with the businesses and IT professionals that use our backup software."
ION 2.0 is being released in four configurations. The Home Version is a simple, intuitive piece of automated backup software designed for backing up pictures, movies and documents, and is currently retailing for $19.95 per license. The more robust Workstation Edition is designed to provide powerful backup and disaster recovery options to small businesses and home offices. ION's Server Edition Standard and Premium both support Windows Server 2000 and 2003, but the Premium version adds modules to back up SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange.
"The consistent requests for SQL and Exchange backup coming from our partners prompted us to devote a great deal of development time to creating the new Server Premium edition of ION," says Dan Heckman, CIO, "We believe that this edition, along with the benefits of our partnership program, will position us as the top choice for backup among small to medium-sized business IT providers."
In addition to the changes represented by the Server Premium Edition, ION now provides a simple one-click module to backup Microsoft Outlook in every edition. Also included are new power options to automatically shutdown or sleep a machine following a backup job and bandwidth throttling to better manage the transfer of data using ION's Site-to-Site feature. Enhanced job history views and the easy replication of saved jobs have been added to boost ION's functionality and the restore capabilities have also been upgraded.
"In addition to the various enhancements, we really focused on assuring that the new version of ION functioned well with Microsoft Vista," says Snader, "We have found that data backup is a major concern for users switching over to the new operating system."
The Home and Workstation editions are compatible with Windows 2000, XP and Vista. However, the Home version does not support Site-to-Site Transfer. Only the Workstation and Server editions offer the disaster recovery and off-site backup capabilities of Site-to-Site.
"We are really proud of this new version of ION," says Nic Darling, Director of Marketing, "but we are always looking for ways to improve our product. Enhancement ideas, questions and comments are always welcome."
