Workshop at Greater Metropolitan New York Social Studies Conference Introduces the Big Apple to the Latest in K-8 Economic Education

Resources for elementary and middle school teachers include lesson plans that use play dough, children's stories.

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 30, 2008 -- The National Council on Economic Education (NCEE, www.ncee.net) today unveiled its workshop for the Greater Metropolitan New York Social Studies Conference in New York City on February 9, 2008.

Attendees of the workshop, Novel Ways to Teach K-8 Economics, will discover the most up-to-date economics content and teaching strategies for elementary and middle school classrooms. During the workshop, teachers will receive free sample lessons, handouts and other resources they can take back to their K-8 classrooms and use immediately.

"The sooner students are exposed to economics principles, the more successful they will be in their high school courses," said Troy D. White, Director of Product Marketing and Sales. "This workshop is an ideal way for New York City teachers to plant a seed that will last a lifetime."

John LeFeber, NCEE's Online Curriculum and Instructional Developer, will lead the workshop at 11 a.m. in room H at the United Federation of Teachers headquarters in lower Manhattan. Mr. LeFeber will focus on Play Dough Economics (http://store.ncee.net/playdougheconomics.html), which uses sculpting clay to introduce students to basic economics concepts such as scarcity, trade and entrepreneurship. In addition, Mr. LeFeber will demonstrate simple ways to infuse economics into popular children's stories.

NCEE will also profile its newest economics materials in the exhibit hall at booth 53. Attendees can browse a full suite of K-12 supplemental and multimedia resources and discover ways to integrate economics into their social studies curriculum. The exhibit will take place on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
