International Underwater Photo Competition Celebrates The World's Oceans & Reefs - Deadline Feb 15th

Underwater photographers from around the globe will compete to win over $30,000 in prizes, including dive trips all over Indonesia and beyond.

2008 will mark the second year of the popular international DEEP Indonesia Underwater Photography Competition, in association with Indonesia's first-ever diving, adventure Travel and water sports expo.

The event is the second in a series hosted by popular underwater photography websites Wetpixel.com & DivePhotoGuide.com. In 2007 the competition series doled out nearly $100,000 in prizes to photographers in 20 countries. Participants submitted images from over 50 countires.

"By hosting two international competitions associated with dive expos on opposite sides of the world simultaneously, we have establish a complementary series of categories and prizing opportunities for underwater photographers worldwide." says Jason Heller, professional underwater photographerand CEO of DivePhotoGuide.com.

Photographers will compete in 7 themed categories to win over $30,000 in prizes, including photo equipment, dive gear, and premium dive travel packages to some of the top photo destinations in Indonesia and beyond. Indonesia trips include Ambon, Bali, Fak Fak, Komodo, Lembeh, Manado, and Raja Empat. Additional dive packages include Papua New Guinea and The Bahamas. The contest includes a category for images that focus on conservation and the marine environment, one specifically for entries taken by compact digital cameras, and one specifically for Indonesian entrants.

Esteemed judges Eric Cheng, Stephen Frink, and David Espinosa will select winners after the Feb 15, 2008 deadline. Winners will be announced online, published by media partners worldwide and exhibited during the DEEP Indonesia Expo in Jakarta, Indonesia (March 28-30, 2008).

As with all Underwatercompetition.com events, 15% of entry proceeds will be donated to marine conservation efforts.
