BrinkPoint Consulting LLC, providing comprehensive consulting services for boards, today announced its annual list of Top 10 Challenges for in 2008. The list serves as a guidepost for directors and executives as they navigate the most significant period of governance reform in decades.
"Our Top 10 Challenges List reflects the increasing complexity and urgency of governance reform," said Deborah Wallace, Principal of BrinkPoint Consulting. "It identifies areas of focus that need to be tackled and resolved, both individually and collectively, if they are to lead their organizations to sustainable success."
The Top 10 Challenges are:
- Sarbanes-Oxley Takes IT Front and Center
- Investor Relations: A Power Shift in the Making
- Redefining Risk: Think Landscape Not Garden Plot
- Directors As Strategists: Bring on the Best
- The Business of Non Profits
- Ethics and Compliance: Who Is In Charge?
- Proxy Voting: What Can We Learn from Global Models?
- Trends in C-Level Compensation: More Is Not Always A Four-letter Word
- Director Education: Yes, They Need It Too
- CEO Succession: Be Prepared in the Best of Times
"The list is not intended to prioritize the issues. What may be of greatest urgency for one board may not necessarily be the number one issue for another. However," Ms. Wallace continued. "We do think that most boards will consider several of these issues simultaneously. In fact, we would strongly recommend it. Resolving any one of these requires significant resources and commitment. Unless boards keep in mind that a course of action for one issue will almost always impact the course of action for another, they could find that their decisions backfire, and no board wants to revisit an issue unnecessarily."
Each month BrinkPoint will issue an article on one of these Top 10 Challenges. To read this month's article, Sarbanes-Oxley Takes IT Front and Center, click here or go to http://www.brinkpointconsulting.com/article020408.cfm.
