San Jose, CA (PRWEB) February 9, 2008
Xsigo Systems, Inc., the technology leader in data center I/O virtualization, today announced that the Xsigo VP780 I/O Director was named Product of the Year in the networking equipment category in Storage Magazine-SearchStorage.com Products of the Year awards.
"As IT managers virtualize servers and transition to flexible data center architectures, they encounter the cost and complexity limitations of traditional server I/O," said Jon Toor, Xsigo's vice president of marketing. "This honor is recognition of the overwhelming interest in Xsigo virtual I/O based on our customer's growing need to increase data center agility and reduce capital costs, while economizing on power, space, and cooling."
The Product of the Year networking equipment category received a record number of nominations this year, and ultimately Storage Magazine-SearchStorage.com decided on six finalists. On January 22nd, the Xsigo Systems I/O Director was named one of the finalists and ultimately beat out five other contenders for the top honor of Gold in the Products of the Year networking equipment category.
Several judges praised the Xsigo VP780 I/O Director's innovation and commented that "to reap huge benefits, the old ways of doing things sometimes need to be changed; that's why Xsigo won the gold in this category."
The entries were judged by the Storage Magazine-SearchStorage.com editorial staff, in conjunction with a team of users, industry experts, analysts, and consultants. Each product was gauged on six key criteria: ease of integration, functionality, innovation, manageability, performance and value. Xsigo Systems launched in September of 2007 specifically to address the I/O connection bottlenecks currently found in the data center. Using Xsigo's technology, it is estimated that large data centers can lower their server-related operational expenses by up to 80%, cut capital costs by 50%, and use 70% less cabling by using Xsigo's technology--resulting in 100x faster server management.
With Xsigo's VP 780 I/O Director, IT managers can provision I/O resources on-the-fly without disrupting network and storage configurations, and without physically entering the data center. Xsigo consolidates the I/O infrastructure and replaces physical network and storage interfaces (NICs and HBAs) with virtual resources that are remotely manageable from a single console. Unlike alternative approaches, the Xsigo I/O Director offers reduced capital costs, greater management simplicity, and support for open standards.
