Austin, TX (PRWEB) February 11, 2008
SolarWinds, a leader in network management software, announced today the availability of Application Performance Monitor, a new module for its award-winning network performance management product, Orion. Application Performance Monitor, which represents the next generation and replacement of the popular Orion Application Monitor module, dramatically increases the capabilities to isolate application performance from network performance. This new software provides network engineers the ability to monitor and validate how business-critical applications are performing on the network, drastically reducing the time needed to locate and solve performance issues.
More than ever before, today's daily business is conducted online, through websites, e-mail, voice-over-IP, and other networked applications and services. IT professionals must quickly pinpoint performance issues across increasingly complex and global networks. SolarWinds' Application Performance Monitor significantly reduces the time it takes to recognize, isolate and ultimately fix application performance problems by identifying the source of the problem.
The Application Performance Monitor integrates seamlessly into the Orion web-based interface, creating a centralized fault and performance management console for networks, servers and applications. Network engineers can monitor detailed server status, as well as many out-of-the-box network services, including Active Directory®, DNS, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, POP3, and SMTP. Network engineers can also simulate the end-user experience of web applications through synthetic transactions, alerting them of performance issues even before end-users experience problems.
With this newest release, SolarWinds is also introducing a powerful, yet simple, capability for creating and sharing Application Monitoring Templates via its community site, thwack.com. Within the Application Performance Monitor product, users can share templates they've created, or import templates created by other SolarWinds community members, saving valuable time and effort to configure monitoring of specific applications.
"The traditional approach to problem-solving these enterprise-scale performance issues have come at a high cost and complexity," said Kenny Van Zant, chief product strategist, SolarWinds. "With Application Performance Monitor, we're continuing our strategy of delivering easy-to-purchase, easy-to-install and easy-to-use management software that is affordable."
Capabilities of Application Performance Monitor include:
- Web user experience monitoring: User experience monitors for web (HTTP/HTTPS) that perform synthetic transactions to check and verify HTML page content and measure response time.
- Integrated monitoring with Orion: Extension of Orion's network performance monitoring with application and server performance monitoring in a centralized console, complete with Top10 lists, alerting, reporting, and historical trending and graphing.
- Advanced server and process monitoring: Monitoring on Windows®, UNIX® and Linux servers including tracking process and Windows Service availability, number of instances running, memory usage and CPU utilization via Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) and SNMP.
- Network service and TCP port monitoring: Out-of-the-box monitoring of MS SQL Server™, Active Directory®, DNS (over TCP and UDP), FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, IMAP4, POP3, SMTP and NNTP and more.
- Enterprise-ready management infrastructure: Robust, reliable and scalable to large networks, requiring little care and maintenance. APM includes long-term storage of application performance data for historical trending.
Matt Schaeffer, a systems administrator at Home Instead Senior Care®, an Omaha-based company with franchises employing more than 50,000 elder care professionals, configured Application Performance Monitor to monitor web servers, applications, and e-mail. Now Schaeffer and his team can more quickly isolate performance problems to determine where the root cause lies. "Application Performance Monitor has better granularity and provides more details, so we know more quickly when we have problems," says Schaeffer. "Now, we're able to see things that we may not even get calls about."
