San Pedro, CA (PRWEB) February 14, 2008
Coastal Center for Obesity is providing an informative seminar and support group this coming Saturday for patients that have undergone Bariatric surgery and all those who want to learn more about the benefits and challenges of weight loss surgery, as well as the options now available to them. While obesity is a threat among all social classes and populations, Latinos are disproportionately affected by obesity and its complications including diabetes, hypertension, vascular disease, sleep apnea and depression. This support group has been created to help and educate the Hispanic community about this serious problem and will be held in Spanish, though English-speaking participants are welcome.
The seminar will be hosted by Dr. Milton Owens, a recognized expert who has been performing weight loss surgery since 1987 and has done over 3,000 procedures. Participants will get the answers to questions about the groundbreaking weight-reduction surgeries and ongoing postoperative support programs at the Center that are helping more and more individuals lead healthier, happier lives. Attendants will also have the opportunity to talk to postoperative patients such as radio celebrities Tomas Fernandez, producer for the "Piolin" show, and Silvia Botello from KLVE. Tomas has lost approximately 100 pounds after undergoing Gastric Sleeve operation in 2007 with Dr. Owens. Silvia will share her experience and why she chose to have Lap Band surgery with Dr. Owens after watching the healthy transformation of co-worker Pacorro Galvez who elected Gastric Bypass with Dr. Owens in 2005.
Interested individuals considering Gastric Bypass, Lap Band or Gastric Sleeve surgery are encouraged to attend on February 16th, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Moseley Salvatori Conference Center - Magnolia Room 637, Lucas Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90017, right next to the Good Samaritan Hospital. There is no cost to attend, but pre-registration is encouraged. Please call 1-888-527-5222 to register.
Bariatric Surgery is an increasingly popular weight-loss alternative for morbidly obese people who face serious health risks associated with their weight. Recent data indicates that 50 percent of Americans are overweight and 6-10 million are more then 100 pounds overweight.
