The COWBOY MAGIC® company (http://www.cowboymagic.com), manufacturer of the popular line of COWBOY MAGIC® quality grooming and healthcare products for horses, dogs and their owners, has donated a year’s supply of COWBOY MAGIC® DETANGLER™ & SHINE to Southland Collie Rescue, a nonprofit organization based in Southern California that is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating Collies. The donated products will be used by both Southland Collie Rescue and NorCal Collie Rescue volunteers who care for the dogs, and each new adopter will receive COWBOY MAGIC® DETANGLER™ & SHINE in their dog’s adoption kit. The two organizations work together to rescue, rehabilitate and adopt out about 200 Collies a year.

Southland Collie Rescue volunteer Kathleen Bautista discovered COWBOY MAGIC® DETANGLER™ & SHINE two years ago. A Collie owner herself, Bautista was looking for a product to help make caring for her dog’s coat easier, not only because of the amount of work involved but also because her arthritis sometimes made grooming her dog difficult. At the time, the product was marketed to horse owners, but it had already developed a following among professional dog groomers, and word was spreading to dog owners.

“A Collie’s coat needs to be brushed out daily, or at least every few days,” explains Bautista, who says that on a scale of 1 to 10, a Collie is a 10 in terms of the amount of care the coat requires. “I don’t know of another dog that would be as difficult. If you don’t keep the undercoat thinned out and brushed, it will completely mat up all the way to the skin, and it will do this very quickly.”

Bautista says that the COWBOY MAGIC® DETANGLER™ & SHINE unfurls the hair, even close to the skin, where it is difficult to reach with a brush or comb. “It gives the hair elasticity and helps the slicker brush slide through it,” she says, adding that she uses it on both wet and dry hair with equal results.

After her discovery, she started using the product on the rescued Collies, as well. “Many of the Collies rescued come to SCR with their coats so dirty and matted that it sometimes impedes their movement,” Bautista says. “Often, the only solution was to shave them. I’ve been using COWBOY MAGIC® DETANGLER™ & SHINE on the rescued Collies for two years now, and I have yet to have a Collie come in that was so bad that we couldn’t save the coat with it. Had I known about the product prior to that, there is no doubt it would have saved us from shaving quite a few dogs.”

Bautista contacted COWBOY MAGIC® to inquire about purchasing the product in larger quantities at a reduced price because the volunteers were using so much of it. After hearing her story, COWBOY MAGIC® Founder and CEO Jim Cummings decided to send enough product for the volunteers to use for an entire year, as well as include it in every dog’s adoption kit.

“I have a fundamental desire to use the success of COWBOY MAGIC® to help where we can and we can help Southland Collie Rescue,” says Cummings.

“By putting this product in the hands of adopters, people will be more comfortable managing their dog’s upkeep, and the dogs will be more comfortable, as well,” Bautista says. “A lot of people wince at the thought of getting a collie because of their coats. This makes it easier. I can’t imagine having Collies without it.”

COWBOY MAGIC® was founded by Cummings in 1995, and its products are currently available in 4,500 retail locations worldwide. The complete COWBOY MAGIC® line of quality grooming products, which can be used on both horses and humans, includes DETANGLER™ & SHINE, ROSEWATER SHAMPOO, ROSEWATER DEMINERALIZER™ CONDITIONER, SUPER BODYSHINE™, GREENSPOT® REMOVER and SHINE IN YELLOWOUT™. Additional products include DRY SKIN LOTION for hardworking hands and Medicated KRUDBUSTER™, Medicated RAINROT™ SHAMPOO and Medicated THRUSH KILLER for horses.

“All Cowboy Magic products, with the exception of KRUDBUSTER™, RAINROT™ SHAMPOO, and Medicated THRUSH KILLER are manufactured under human cosmetic guidelines,” says Cummings. “As a result, all ingredients are listed on the label, product quality control standards are regulated and manufacturing standards are higher than those required for products manufactured for animal use only. Each COWBOY MAGIC® product is clinically tested and Dermatologist reviewed. During the clinical test a minimum of 50 people wear a patch of COWBOY MAGIC® against their skin 24 hours a day for 30 days. The test determines allergy free skin reaction. Only after COWBOY MAGIC® passes this test can the statement "Clinically Tested Dermatologist Reviewed" be printed on the label. Although it costs more to manufacture and market COWBOY MAGIC® products under these high standards, it ensures that our customers are getting what they expect from the product they are paying for. And because our products are concentrated, they work better, last longer and cost less.”

Medicated KRUDBUSTER™, Medicated RAINROT™ SHAMPOO and Medicated THRUSH KILLER are all classified as over-the-counter-drugs and are manufactured and labeled according to FDA OTC guidelines. “Quality standards for these three products are even higher,” says Cummings. “Years of active-ingredient testing are required to validate product effectiveness. Label statements are regulated to ensure that no misleading statements are made, all ingredients are listed on the label and active ingredients are listed separately, declaring both the percentage of active ingredient used and what effect it has.”
