1Fight Network Presents Toronto Mixed Martial Arts Tryouts at Native Centre

Toronto Mixed Martial Arts Tryouts™ for aboriginal and non-aboriginal fighters this Sunday February 24th at the Native Canadian Centre on 16 Spadina Road presented by Johnny Powers 1Fight Network, George Lepine and "Urban Elder" Vern Harper. International talent scouts will be looking for the next MMA TV Stars. All fight styles are welcome from both male and female competitors.

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) February 19, 2008 -- Johnny Powers, executive producer of 1Fight Network, Master George Lepine, founder of Okichitaw, and Urban Elder "Asin" Vern Harper of the Aboriginal Community of Toronto are proud to present Toronto Mixed Martial Arts Tryouts™ for aboriginal and non-aboriginal fighters this Sunday February 24th at the Native Canadian Centre on 16 Spadina Road.

Mixed martial arts (MMA) is the fastest growing sport in North America and Ontario has a large fighter base. Both male and female fighters in all fight styles are welcome with both gi and no-gi.

Top international trainers such as Shah Franco of Team Franco, a former IKA World Karate Champion and Canada's top MMA trainer will be giving technical training and scouting for future MMA stars. Franco has been sending his fighters to Shooto Japan and was instrumental in Rob "Maximus" MacDonald's recent comeback championship victory.

Coach Rob Pelletier of Iron Eagle Fitness Centres will be teaching striking techniques. Former pro boxer Pelletier was a training partner of boxing icon Muhammed Ali and is a national level coach.

Master George Lepine , an 1988 Seoul, Korea Olympics Tae Kwon Do competitor, creator of the first indigenous native martial art, Okichitaw, recognized by the World Martial Arts Union and Canada's most respected aboriginal martial artist will be training and a talent judge

Johnny Powers of Fight World Federation, a 3 time NWF World Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Champion and a submission wrestling specialist will be there on the lookout for MMA talent. Powers was inducted into the Top 18 Greatest Fighters in Japan Rings along with Karl Gotch, Lou Thesz and Ali in Yokohama, Japan in 1991. Powers is known as one of the most creative sports combat promoters of all time.

Doors open at 11am and tryouts are from 12 noon to 5pm.
