Web Searches Predict Obama for President

In comparing the amount of search traffic on the top four presidential candidate's last names, Google Trends data shows "Obama" is searched on more than any other candidate. "Clinton" is a distant second.

Lehi, Utah (PRWEB) February 16, 2008 -- Barack Obama will be the next president of the United States, according to the volume of searches on his name, as reported by Google Trends.

In comparing the amount of search traffic on the top four presidential candidate's last names, Google Trends data shows "Obama" is searched on more than any other candidate. "Clinton" is a distant second.

Based on analysis of Google Trends by search engine optimization firm SEO.com, the number of searches performed on a presidential candidate's last name on the day of a state's primary or caucus has given a fairly accurate prediction of that state's winner.

"Although Google Trends has only been 70 percent accurate in predicting individual state primaries and caucuses, the national search data has proved to be 100 percent accurate in predicting the current Republican and Democratic front-runners," said Adam Torkildson of SEO.com.

For the Republican nomination, McCain has had the most search traffic from his last name, thus indicating that he will be nominated as the Republican candidate. However, the disparity between searches for Republican and Democratic nominees predicts there will be a Democrat in the White House after the 2008 Elections if the election results to continue to mirror web searches.

"According to the current search data on Google Trends, the possibility of McCain beating out Obama in the 2008 General Election is next to impossible," Torkildson said.
