Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa has been honoured with not one but two prestigious awards at the 2007 AON Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards held on Denarau Island on Friday February 8, 2008.

Sofitel, who had the privilege of hosting the Tourism Awards ceremony in its Grand Ballroom this year, was recognised in two different categories - Best Restaurant for its popular outdoor eatery 'Salt', and the Frontliner of the Year award presented to Activities Supervisor Kolinio Temo or exemplary customer service.

Amanda Silk, General Manager of the Sofitel Fiji Resort, says the hotel's two diverse awards wins acknowledge Sofitel's commitment to customer service, operational expertise and product innovation.

"From fantastic food options to friendly faces - these two special award wins show that Sofitel Fiji performs at both ends of the spectrum with confidence and charisma," said Ms Silk. "We were already very excited to be involved in the Excellence Awards as event host, so to win these accolades on the night was a true honour."

Ms. Silk said Kolinio Temo's Frontliner award - otherwise known as the "Positively Outrageous Customer Service Award" - acknowledged the high standard of customer service skills cultivated by Sofitel staff who consistently go beyond the call of duty to make holiday dreams come true for vistors to the Fiji Islands.

"Sofitel Hotels and Resorts are known throughout the world for their five star luxury and impeccable hospitality, so the Frontliner customer service award mans a lot to our team," said Ms. Silk. "Kolinio Temo embodies our generous spirit and leaves a lasting impression on guests, by displaying a warm and friendly welcome combined with experienced and professional service. He is a fantastic leader who sets a high standard by his example, and is an asset not only to our hotel but to Fiji."

A proud Fijian and Sofitel Fiji's Activities Supervisor, Kolinio Temo, leads a team of eight at the resort, and is responsible for a range of 'public' programs, from arranging traditional cultural and leisure activities to coordinating recreational itineraries for conference and incentive guests. He has also led fundraising efforts for Sofitel to assist the Cure Kids Fiji Charity, and is a qualified life guard and fitness instructor.

Ms. Silk said the Best Restaurant accolade showed how far Fiji has progressed on its journey to becoming a legitimate food destination, settling a new benchmark for others to aspire to in terms of quality and menu selection.

"The Sofitel Fiji and our fine food and beverage team at Salt has won a variety of service and chef awards in the past, but this nationally recognised award for the restaurant at large and its staff is the jewel in our culinary crown," Silk said.

Salt Restaurant prioritises local Fijian produce in preference to overseas products, and offers the most diverse menu on offer in Fiji. From sushi and salad to grills, pizza and pasta, Salt has broad appeal for every visitor that passes its door. The restaurant also boasts an authentic tandoor clay oven to create mouth-watering Indian favourites, including stone ground lamb, raita, spiced chicken kebabs, pappadums and delicious naan.

Last week's annual Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards attracted key corporate figures, government officials including the interim Tourism Minister Tom Ricketts, was held to recognise individuals and organisations that have gone the extra mile to develop national tourism.

To celebrate its recent award wins, the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa is offering a 'Stay 5 pay 4 - and eat in style' deal priced from A$760 per person (twin share). The offer includes flights, accommodation, breakfast daily plus a F$245 food and beverage credit to sample the wares of award winning SALT restaurant for yourself. Valid for bookings until March 14, and for travel between April 1 and September 30, 2008.
