ARS Technologies Inc. Introduces Uniform Support for DOS Software

ARS Technologies Inc. introduces a uniform support for DOS software for its USB2- and SSI2- based line of products, across multiple operating systems.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) February 21, 2008 -- San Diego based hardware and software manufacturer ARS Technologies released DOS software support for its USB2- and SSI2- based line of products, across multiple operating systems.

DOS support was a popular operating system 15-25 years ago. There is some hardware- in the industrial, embedded, scientific, medical fields, for example- that still relies on DOS software. ARS Technologies provides uniform support for software written for DOS operating system that services ISA, PCI and PCMCIA cards, used under popular today's operating systems and installed on modern computer systems.

DOS software can be used under variety of modern operating system using DOS emulators. ARS Technologies selected DOSBOX emulator to run the DOS software. DOS BOX emulator is open source and it supports a wide number of operating systems. The Uniform DOS support is part of ARS installation software and is available as a free download, from the company's website, for both existing and new customers.

ARS provides current builds for Windows, and Linux operating systems. ARS plans to add Uniform DOS support for Mac OS X releases as well.

In addition, for developers, ARS Technologies offers the sources of the DOSBOX files they modify. This includes files released under the condition of using the software exclusively on the hardware and software products of ARS Technologies. Developers may use the included files, modify them if
needed and make their own build.

Adding a uniform support for DOS software specifically under Linux operating system offers an interesting transition path. Users can benefit by using their existing DOS software under an emulator running on a powerful Linux kernel that utilizes the maximum extent of the modern computer hardware.
