WestPoint Home, a nationwide bedding and bath manufacturer, recently celebrated its 15th anniversary working with BagsOnTheNet Corp (http://www.bagsonthenet.com). The relationship started when WestPoint Home was in desperate need of a new custom print bag supplier. The one that they had was not meeting their needs.
"They had problems with the distribution to individual store locations and bags breaking," said Iran Schwartz, president of BagsOnTheNet, a custom print bag supplier. "When you're packing pillows and comforters into plastic bags, you need something that will stand up to stress."
WestPoint Home turned to BagsOnTheNet to meet their custom printed bag supply needs. BagsOnTheNet set out to address the problems that WestPoint Home faced, while still keeping their costs down.
The first thing they did was to use the design parameters they were given to create durable bags and handles that wouldn't break, even when carrying the heaviest and bulkiest items. Schwartz even went out to the stores to see what products they were trying to fit into the custom print bags.
"With his advice, over the years, we eliminated a bag size to make the bags a better fit around our cash registers," said Richie Milner, the controller of retail operation for WestPoint Home. "Instead of having to store four or five bags, we only had to store three."
But BagsOnTheNet didn't stop there. They also set up a store-door distribution scheme where individual WestPoint Home stores faxed or emailed their usage requests directly to BagsOnTheNet for distribution within 24 hours. They helped the stores manage their inventory of bags and gave them advice as to what they should have on hand.
"Typically a custom print bag supplier will determine what your needs are, then you place the order and they supply the bags," Milner said. "BagsOnTheNet assisted us in keeping our bag inventory under control, making sure we took notice of stores using a higher quantity of a certain size bag. They kept spreadsheets of our usage at each location, which I thought was above and beyond the call of duty."
With their solutions, BagsOnTheNet was able to help cut WestPoint Home's distribution costs, as well as their cost per bag.
"When you're using millions of bags a year, that's a significant savings," said Schwartz.
"We've really enjoyed the partnership with BagsOnTheNet and would highly recommend them to any company looking to start a relationship with a bag supplier," said Milner.
