Saddle Brook, NJ (PRWEB) February 22, 2008 -- Twenty carpet collections from Nourison, the world's largest manufacturer of area rugs and a leading producer of premium-quality broadloom carpeting, have received Green Label certification from the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI), a nonprofit trade association whose voluntary, in-depth testing program certifies rugs as some of the "healthiest" on the market.

The Green Label program measures the amount of "volatile organic compounds" (VOCs) that are emitted from carpeting and can contribute to poor indoor air quality. Although carpet is one of the lowest emitters of VOCs in the home, CRI tests for emission levels of VOCs and dozens of chemicals and adhesives in broadloom. Only those carpets that meet or exceed these stringent test levels are awarded Green Label Plus certification.

In order to earn and maintain this identification, carpeting and adhesives undergo a three-tier testing process (initial, quarterly and annually) to monitor continued compliance with the program's requirements. Nourison rugs that have received certification include a number of signature collections: Nourison 2000, Ashton House, Ashton 92, Grand Parterre, Grand Textures, Grand Velvet, Heritage Hall and Grand Chalet. New collections that have received certification include Harmony, Lineage, Allure, Majesty, Monet, Paradise, Renoir, Melody, Da Vinci, Rembrandt and Madison.
