Increased Demand for New GS1 Databar Coupon Code Format
Bar Code Graphics, Inc, the largest supplier for coupon barcodes in North America, has seen a dramatic increase for the new GS1 DataBar™ Coupon Code format.
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) February 25, 2008 -- Due to numerous shortcomings of the current coupon format, the coupon industry and GS1 have been working for years on a new coupon structure and barcode. Beginning January 1, 2008, a new interim coupon format, which includes both a UPC-A and GS1 DataBar™, can now be used. The final format consists solely of the GS1 DataBar™ barcode and will be required in 2010.
For the past three years Bar Code Graphics has been extensively involved in all of the technical work groups focusing on this new barcode language and coupon format. Bar Code Graphics' online barcode application received GS1 certification in 2005 and is the only application of its kind certified to create compliant digital barcode files for the GS1 DataBar™ (RSS) symbology. "Beginning last September we started receiving a handful of orders for the interim GS1 DataBar™ coupon format," said Andrew Verb, President. "However, since January 1, the demand has sky rocketed for these symbols and requests have been coming from both large and small consumer goods manufacturers."
To prepare clients for the upcoming changes, Bar Code Graphics launched www.databar-barcode.info last year as an educational resource for GS1 Databar™ information. "The traffic for that site alone has increased 10 fold since last year," says Brenda Rachal, Marketing Manager. "We recently added both encoder and decoder pages for the GS1 DataBar™ Coupon. The data component for this new coupon format is extremely elaborate and potentially lengthy (up to 72 characters). Consequently, it is totally unrealistic to generate these types of symbols from a desktop application due to the data entry complexities."
In addition to providing barcode artwork, Bar Code Graphics also provides barcode print quality verification services to manufacturers, retailers and advertising agencies. "Aside from the noticeably increased demand for GS1 Databar digital barcode files, our bar code testing lab is verifying considerably more Databar coupons," said Andrew Verb. "Our verification services have been especially valuable to companies as they adopt the new format."
