The 2008 SXSW Web Awards aims to uncover the best new websites and celebrate the top innovators who are building and implementing tomorrow's online trends. Comedian, writer and filmmaker Eugene Mirman will emcee the March 9 Web Awards ceremony presented by Adobe, which will name winners in 18 content categories, as well as "People's Choice" and "Best of Show." The ceremony will take place on the 6th floor ballroom of the Downtown Austin Hilton Hotel at 7:30 p.m.
tearitdown.org (tearitdown.org) is Amnesty International's global initiative to end illegal US detentions and a major online action under Amnesty International's campaign to Counter Terror With Justice. The campaign is based on a framework that outlines practical and positive steps US authorities should take to close Guantánamo, and end secret detention and rendition. The program asks other governments to recognize their important role in providing lasting protection for these detainees and to oppose any recourse by the US authorities to secret detention and transfers. Tearitdown.org is the brainchild of Dan Weeks and Derek Sherman of Middle Child and Amnesty International.
