International Studies Abroad Launches Diversity Scholarship for Students

International Studies Abroad (ISA) has developed a $10,000 Diversity Scholarship for students in order to increase multiculturalism within study abroad and to give underrepresented college students additional financial assistance to achieve their goals of studying abroad.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) March 17, 2008 -- International Studies Abroad (ISA) aims to expand the diversity of study abroad students by creating a $10,000 ISA Diversity Scholarship. This scholarship is geared toward increasing diversity and multiculturalism, underrepresented educational disciplines, and ISA student participation in non-traditional study abroad destinations.

Despite the rise in participation of underrepresented students in many U.S. colleges and universities, ISA recognizes that this scholarship could help further broaden the cultural makeup of study abroad participants. Financial aid opportunities such as the ISA Diversity Scholarship will enable a broader spectrum of students to benefit from the enhanced leadership skills that a study abroad experience provides.

The Institute for International Education 2007 reports, "Increasingly, those with the potential to become effective and thoughtful leaders will be those with the cross-cultural insight that comes from studying abroad. It is just this kind of international perspective that is in fact becoming a prerequisite for achievement and progress in a globalizing world."

The ISA Diversity Scholarship is open to those students who wish to bring a broader perspective to their overseas group and encourage multicultural students on their home campus to participate in international education programs. Semester and summer study abroad participants may apply.

Bill Clabby, ISA's Director of Research says, "The more we support study abroad students by lowering the barriers of access to these opportunities, the more individuals will positively influence our world. Although the challenge of coping with the falling dollar remains, we can help students reach this goal by increasing options for students, maintaining low costs of participation, increasing scholarships, and integrating overseas study into home curriculum."

ISA awards $60,000 in scholarships each year to students, with varying eligibility requirements.

Founded in 1987, ISA is a leader in international education - fostering global awareness one student at a time through academic programs in Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, and North Africa. ISA's service-oriented staff prepares students to develop intellectually, grow culturally, and engage the world through affordable university programs of the highest quality.
