InventHelp®, America's leading inventor service company, announces that one of its clients, an inventor from Irving, Texas, has designed a water leak detection and control system. This invention is patented.
The "Flood Safety Valve" could prevent flooding caused by service lines that continue to supply water to leaking fixtures, pipes or appliances. The invention could protect against damage to carpets, flooring and walls. The unit could conserve water used, which could reduce waste by cutting off the water supply to malfunction devices that could otherwise leak indefinitely. The Flood Safety Valve would be ideal for use with toilets, ice makers, water heaters and water softeners.
The Flood Safety Valve would consist of a plumbing device that features a flow detector, a manual reset button and a small timer assembly, which would be used to detect and stop water flow once the preset time is exceeded. The inline valve would be placed between the water-supply line and the water-utilizing device via standard plumbing fittings. The unit would be programmed to a specified amount of time needed by a specific appliance to fill or function, which would allow for a small margin for error. The flow-detection timer would initiate every time the water flow is turned on, resetting if the specified amount of water or less is utilized. If the time elapsed exceeds the specified setting, the valve would close automatically, which would stop the water flow. An audible alarm would sound every 2 minutes until the unit is reset. A manual reset would enable a user to reinitiate the water flow once the reason for the excess flow is discovered and amended.
