Resurrection Health Care Chooses RES-Q Labor Resource Management For Staffing and Scheduling at its Eight Hospitals that Serve the Chicago Area

Chicago-area health care organization implements RES-Q software enterprise-wide.

RES-Q Healthcare Systems announced that Resurrection Health Care has signed a master license agreement for the enterprise-wide purchase and implementation of the RES-Q Labor Resource Management system for all eight of its hospitals in the Chicago, Ill. area. The RES-Q software supports enterprise staffing and scheduling by translating hospital workload standards into specific staffing patterns by employee skill level. It calculates optimal staffing for all units and departments by shift and then creates complete employee schedules. Resurrection will use the RES-Q system to manage staffing and scheduling for some 10,000 employees (including nurses, all other clinical and non-clinical professionals, support personnel and clerical staff).

"To maximize productivity, hospitals must schedule the correct number of staff with the right mix of skills and credentials given the intensity of patients' needs," said Kevin Karl, M.H.A., director of applications, information services, Resurrection Health Care. "RES-Q offers a robust and flexible patient attribute and classification module to define and calculate variable patient acuity levels in order to optimize the balance of patient demand and labor supply. And with RES-Q's productivity metrics, we expect that our business unit managers will be able to monitor and manage staffing in real time and report information on a timely basis."

"Interfacing RES-Q Labor Resource Management to our patient ADT system on a real-time basis will supply the primary data for the patient acuity calculation for each inpatient," said Janet Stifter, R.N., M.S., vice president, patient care services, Saint Joseph Hospital, one of the eight Resurrection Health Care hospitals. "We currently must wait days or weeks to obtain labor productivity data. The RES-Q system makes data available on a shift-by-shift and daily basis and will include actual hours worked via another interface to our time and attendance system."

RES-Q Labor Resource Management includes comprehensive personnel management with complete personnel profiles for each employee. Certification and license renewal dates, continuing medical education classes and credits, performance evaluations, salary histories, and special skill sets are among the types of data maintained. With real-time integration with employee scheduling, the system allows only properly credentialed and licensed employees to be scheduled and helps match staff qualifications to patient needs. Reminders of upcoming certification and licensure renewal dates can also be automated.

RES-Q's Budget Builder also differentiated RES-Q Labor Resource Management. "The Budget Builder module allows you to simulate the financial and performance impact on a department's budget as you vary staffing, salary rates, patient volumes and department workload standards," said Stifter.
