Company Plans to Implement Facility into Manufacturing Process

Delta Printing Solutions ( announces that it has built a quality assurance laboratory to help the company and its manufacturing employees gain a better understanding of its book manufacturing process.

The Delta Quality Assurance Lab, which became operational earlier this year, contains a variety of machines to test different phases of the book manufacturing process. These phases include testing glue strength by pulling pages, testing binding strength by flexing pages, measuring how many turns it takes to tear a page out and determining how many rubs it takes before the ink starts decomposing.

"Our goal was to build the best printing quality lab on the West Coast and implement its use into our daily manufacturing process," says Bruce Bastoky, Vice President of Operations for Delta Printing Solutions. "We've never heard of another printer with a quality lab of this scope. It's nearly unprecedented to put time and resources into a project like this."

Delta Printing Solutions has added a full-time staffer for the lab and installed a classroom where topics such as color management and GATF print standards will be discussed. The company also bought an AmScope binocular microscope to examine problems at a variety of magnifications to better measure and understand the performance of their presses.

Delta's major goal with the quality lab is having its employees understand not just what they're doing but why they're doing it and why they get the results they do.

"Putting this effort into understanding our quality is the first step in continuing to improve it," says Bastoky. "In the printing business all of us occasionally come across customer complaints and problems. Our lab is designed to investigate, understand, and when necessary, correct process-related problems."
