The Book of the Year Awards, now in its tenth year, is designed to highlight the best books from independent publishers--including universities, small presses and self-publishers--and generate interest for these titles among buyers. Nearly 1,600 books, representing 350 publishers, competed for the coveted Finalist slots.

The selected finalists will now be judged by an expert panel comprised of librarians and booksellers. Gold, silver and bronze winners, as well as Editor's Choice prizes for fiction and nonfiction, will be announced at a special event May 29, 2008 during BookExpo America, inside the Los Angeles Convention Center.
