5 Years Too Many - 'End the War in Iraq, Bring the Troops Home Now' say Texans for Peace
As the 5th anniversary of the start of the current war in Iraq nears, Texans for Peace say 'no more to war'. Texans for Peace have kicked off a month of peace and antiwar activities throughout the state including marches, vigils, protests, sermons and films.
Austin, TX (PRWEB) March 11, 2008 -- As the Iraq war and occupation enters its 5th anniversary, Texans for Peace have kicked off a month of peace and antiwar activities throughout the state including marches, vigils, protests, sermons and films. From Brownsville to the Metroplex, Texans are calling attention to the devastating effects of the war and ongoing occupation of Iraq and demanding and end, says Charlie Jackson, founder of Texans for Peace.
"It's past time the people of Texas stood up to this Administration and its congressional enablers to say 'enough', and bring our troops home," says Jackson. Jackson notes that despite claims that the "Surge" is working, there were more than 600 people killed and injured in Iraq in just the past week and the U.S. continues to spend more than $12 billion per month on an occupation that is not supported by either the people of Iraq or America.
During the month of March, activities large and small will encourage Texans to speak their mind about the situation in Iraq. A statewide "Million Musicians for Peace" rally is planned for Austin on March 15 at the State Capitol. "The future of this country is being written," Jackson states, "and we will not sanction continued murder in our names."
