iTrinegy (http://www.itrinegy.com), the Networked Application Performance Lifecycle Specialists, report that the latest Aberdeen Group Benchmark Report "The Roadmap to the Next Generation Branch Office Networks" confirms the strategic importance of using network and application performance monitoring tools in conjunction with network simulators in order to optimize branch office network performance.
Furthermore, the report goes on to say that with 52% of the corporate workforce now working outside of headquartered offices and a predicted growth increase in this of 7% by the end of 2008, there is an ongoing and increasing need to optimise the network and application performance of data throughput for business continuity and improved productivity.
The independent Aberdeen report sets out a number of required actions and steps to success including: using historical performance data for making decisions about branch upgrades, adopting tools for troubleshooting issues with application response times and developing capabilities for testing application performance over the WAN in a simulated environment. These are all technologies provided by iTrinegy.
One of the Required Actions identified in the Aberdeen Group Report is the use of historic performance data when making decisions about branch upgrades. The study shows that Best-in Class organizations are 67% more likely than all others to conduct branch upgrades based on historical data on network performance. Having this capability in place contributed to Best-in-Class being 40% more likely to reduce the cost of bandwidth services (measured as a percentage of total IT spend) as compared to all others.
"This study underlines the need to have full visibility and understanding of the current network usage if organizations are to make informed decisions about how best to optimize branch networks, and save on costs and according to Aberdeen's research there is a distinct competitive advantage in being able to measure bandwidth utilization per network location. Using technology such as iTrinegy's AppQoS companies can build up an accurate historical profile of network and application performance and easily measure bandwidth utilization, overall or by user, application or server" says Frank Puranik, iTrinegy's Product Director..
Worryingly, the report suggests a significant number of organizations surveyed do not use historic data on network performance when making decisions about upgrading branch network locations. Developing capabilities to capture, store, and analyze network performance data would allow these organizations to identify performance bottlenecks and make more accurate decisions about locations that need optimization.
According to Bojan Simic, Aberdeen Research Analyst who conducted the study, "Organizations should follow the roadmap created by Best-in-Class organizations, which includes developing robust capabilities for visibility into network and application performance, coupled with solutions for optimizing and accelerating network traffic and remote management of branch office networks.
Aberdeen further reports that 58% of organizations have indicated that improving application performance is their top action among their planned branch office networking initiatives. "This is significant" said Frank: "When planning any branch office network, there is a need to understand the issues that can impact the applications and knowledge of this should be foremost at the planning stage. Our clients know the importance of using pre-deployment tools for the testing of applications on a simulated network, tools such as iTrinegy's network emulator suite of products for simulating application performance over the WAN prior to any branch rollout.'
"In summary", says Frank, "Aberdeen's authoritative report shows that Best-in-Class organizations are seeing that full visibility into network and application performance is a necessary prerequisite for gaining full control over their networks. This allows them to make fully informed decisions about technology solutions that are required for optimizing branch office networks. As Product Director for iTrinegy's, I believe this report validates our focus in the full-life cycle of networked application performance and our products are clearly among the key technology enablers identified in this report which companies need to deploy in order to maximize their investment in branch office networked locations."
