Human Capital Management For Defense: Effectively Managing The Total Force

Over 300 human capital leaders and professionals from the military and civilian sector gathered at the Marriott Crystal Gateway in Arlington, Virginia from February 26-29 to discuss best practices in the recruitment and retention of quality personnel and learn about exciting workforce development initiatives across the DoD.

New York, NY (PRWEB) March 20, 2008 -- Over 300 human capital leaders and professionals from the military and civilian sector gathered at the Marriott Crystal Gateway in Arlington, Virginia from February 26-29 to discuss best practices in the recruitment and retention of quality personnel and learn about exciting workforce development initiatives across the DoD.

Deputy Chief of Staff of the US Army, Lieutenant General Michael Rochelle gave a thought provoking and energetic session on HR strategies for the new millennium. While Jack Penkoske, Director of Manpower, Personnel and Security, DISA talked about how to become an "employer of choice". Other noteworthy speakers included Bill Carr, Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Military Personnel Policy, Mary E. Lacey , PEO, NSPS, OSD and Rear Admiral Michael LeFever, Director of Manpower, Personnel Training and Education (MPT&E) Policy Division (N13), US Navy.
Conference highlights included the Second Annual HCMD Awards. Award categories and awardees are as follows: Most Innovative Recruitment and Retention Program, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA); Best Civilian Workforce Development Program, Naval Surface Warfare Center- Port Hueneme Division; Best Application Consolidating Disparate HR Systems, Department of State; Best Leadership Development Program, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).

Tim Tarczynski, Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel (GI), US Army Tacom Life Cycle Management Command put it best when he said, "HCMD enables key leaders in DOD and the Services to share, collaborate and exchange best practices in human capital management, can lead to significant change in our complex world."
