Women Riding Motorcycles In Record Numbers this Spring and Summer

Female earning power cited as number one reason women are buying their own motorcycles. Women seek freedom and empowerment that comes with being in the saddle of their own motorcycle. She also influences her family to ride.
Women are seeing other women riding these massive machines looking confident and sexy. They say, 'If she can do it, so can I.'

Livingston, MT (PRWEB) March 21, 2008 -- More women than ever in history are choosing to ride a motorcycle as their main leisure activity. According a recent survey by J.D. Power and Associates, 12 out of every 100 motorcycles are sold to women -- that's a 20 percent increase since 2003.

This comes as no surprise to Genevieve Schmitt, founder of the online magazine WomenRidersNow.com and leading motorcycle industry spokesperson. "If you look at society as a whole, women not only control 80 percent of household spending, they are rising up corporate ladders and opening up small businesses at a record rate. Women have more disposable income than ever before and many are choosing to de-stress from their hectic, multi-tasking lives by hopping in the saddle of their own motorcycle to experience the freedom and empowerment that comes with hitting the open road."

Schmitt launched her online magazine, WomenRidersNow.com, in 2006 to capitalize on the growing number of women riders. "Motorcycling is a male dominated sport; there is very little information out there that speaks to a woman interested in riding her own bike. WomenRidersNow.com is the most comprehensive resource available to women interested in straddling their own motorcycle. The Beginner's Guide has info on where find motorcycle training and advice on choosing one's first motorcycle. Plus, there are motorcycle reviews, apparel reviews, safe riding advice and tech tips. And, women can get advice from other riders."

Schmitt attributes part of this explosive growth in female motorcyclists to the copycat effect. "Women are seeing other women riding these massive machines looking confident and sexy. They say, 'If she can do it, so can I.'" Plus, the old stereotype of a woman riding motorcycles as irresponsible and loose is yesterday's news. "Today's woman rider is college-educated earning $50,000 or more and is a role model in her community."

More women on motorcycles mean more young people entering the sport as well. "One of the biggest challenges facing motorcycling is attracting the younger buyer. When mom enjoys riding a motorcycle, she's likely to give her blessing to son and daughter who want to take up the sport," says Schmitt.

WomenRidersNow.com, an online magazine, is the definitive resource for all things women and motorcycling. It is published by Women Riders Now, a marketing and communications company formed in 2006 to assist business owners in reaching the women's market.
