Troy, Ohio (PRWEB) March 26, 2008 -- The Borough of Hanover in York County, Pennsylvania and OneCall Now, a leading provider of group notification solutions, today announced that the Borough has installed a new emergency notification system to serve the residents of Hanover Borough and the customers they serve in Conewago Township, McSherrystown Borough (both located in Adams County) and Penn Township (York County).

Effective immediately, residents of The Borough of Hanover and customers of the borough's water and sewer services will be contacted via telephone by an authorized Borough employee in situations warranting immediate notification.

The Borough is using OneCall Geo, a map-based emergency notification system that can target calls to a specific neighborhood, street, or even a geographic area determined by wind direction or distance from a disaster. The system can call thousands of residents within minutes of an emergency.

Examples of situations in which the system may be used include:

  • Notification to water customers of a water main break or emergency affecting the quality or quantity of potable water.
  • Borough emergencies such as enacting a snow emergency.
  • Fire or police emergencies involving dangers to public safety.
  • General notifications regarding hydrant flushing, extended road closures and other important information that is essential for citizens to know.

"This is an important investment for our citizens," said Bruce Rebert, Hanover Borough Manager. "The OneCall Now notification system allows us to disseminate important information to the public in a timely manner. Citizens will begin receiving calls with messages and we hope they will take advantage of the information they receive."
