CEA, the leading global marketplace for quality http:www/gowithcea.com [study abroad] programs for university and college students in the U.S. and Canada, today added a sixth GlobalCampus Network center to its portfolio, welcoming its first students to GlobalCampus: Rome. Located in Nomentano, Rome's University District, CEA's newest GlobalCampus site is positioned at the center of nearly 2,000 years of history, politics, arts and culture. The facility provides a spectacular learning environment for both CEA students and for those institutions looking to host their own study abroad experiences in a ready-made facility.

For the students currently studying at the Rome campus, as well as prospective students, CEA GlobalCampus: Rome offers a technology-rich environment with experiential curriculum to deliver a truly immersive experience. Through active participation in field observation, tours and lectures, students gain insight into Italy's position within the larger global context and learn the requisite tools to successfully navigate global issues. For example, students have the opportunity to:

  • Discuss defense-related issues with some of Rome's top government and European Union officials
  • Debate post-war Italian culture and institutions after visits to Rome's immigrant communities, places of religious worship, and ethnic markets
  • Retrace the steps of the inauguration parade of the Renaissance popes to discover how pomp and procession influenced architecture and urban planning

"CEA has now located its innovative GlobalCampus centers in the heart of some of the most culturally rich cities in the world," says Dr. Geoffrey Bannister, CEA president and chief academic officer. "The Rome Campus was hand-picked and renovated to provide the ultimate learning environment where students and faculty are in the epicenter of Rome, just steps away from Capitol Hill, Campo dei Fiori and Vatican City."

CEA Global Campus: Rome leverages the unparalleled history and ancient culture as a basis for examining Rome's contemporary society, customs and its people, both past and present, through such programs and courses as:

  • The Legacy of Modern Italy. Courses: Urban History of Rome, Women in Antiquity, Contemporary Italian politics
  • Global Business & Governance. Courses: Global Media: The Politics of Persuasion, Global Human Rights, The Politics of European Integration: An Italian Perspective
  • Italian Language & Culture, Living Italy, How You See It: Photography in the Eternal City, Art and Archaeology of Ancient Rome

Courses taught at CEA GlobalCampus: Rome are designed in conjunction with the University of New Haven (UNH). After the successful completion of a study abroad program, students receive credit for their work from UNH, making credits easily transferable to US-accredited institutions.
In addition to CEA's proprietary courses offered directly to students through the GlobalCampus Network, CEA has built the facilities as a resource for other higher education institutions that want to host their own study abroad programs in a state of the art facility, such as faculty-led trips.

CEA GlobalCampus Rome joins the network of centers in Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Seville and Florence. Additional GlobalCampus Network sites are expected to launch next year.
