PRAXIS takes the traditional college internship program that provides students with a job and resume fodder to a deeper and more meaningful level

Lois Melbourne, chief executive officer and co-founder of Aquire, has been appointed an adjunct faculty member of the University of Dallas as part of the pioneering PRAXIS program. Blending practicum and leadership development programs, PRAXIS offers UD graduate and undergraduate students a unique apprenticeship-style opportunity that combines education with internships and leadership coaching. With the appointment, Melbourne serves as a PRAXIS leadership coach and Aquire is a PRAXIS employer.

"PRAXIS takes the traditional college internship program that provides students with a job and resume fodder to a deeper and more meaningful level," said Melbourne. "With the hands-on professional interaction, students actually begin exploring viable career paths and how best to exploit them. Everyone involved in the program - employers, leadership coaches and students - benefit from the natural networking that takes place as a result."

Students are selected for PRAXIS based on superior academic and leadership potential and moral character, while the companies chosen to employ them as interns are selected based on unique business models, interesting opportunities, or community contributions. Leadership coaches work closely with individual students, meeting weekly to mentor and discuss career and professional development topics, monitoring and evaluating progress, and regularly communicating with the University of Dallas.

Melbourne brings to her appointment both a personal commitment to career education as a PRAXIS leadership coach and a dedication to corporate responsibility as the owner of Aquire, a PRAXIS employer.

Founded by Melbourne and her husband, Ross, in 1994, Aquire is known as the leader in workforce planning and management solutions. In addition to being an Inc 5000 company at the forefront of innovation in its industry, Aquire is also a well-respected employer, recognized in 2008 for the second consecutive year as one of the 75 Best Companies to Work for in Texas.

Melbourne is an active member of industry and business communities, involved in organizations such as NAWBO, the Entrepreneurs' Organization, and the International Association of Human Resource Information Management. She is a regular speaker at a variety of business and industry events and has authored articles related to trends in corporate governance, strategic organizational management and many other issues related to human resource data integrity and management.
