Rebel Monkey Co-Founder to Lead Lecture at Indie MMO Game Developers Conference 2.0

Casual Games are changing traditional gaming standards.

New York (PRWEB) March 27, 2008 -- Rebel Monkey (TM), a New York casual game house, today announced that company co-founder Nick Fortugno is leading a lecture at the Indie MMO Game Developers Conference 2.0, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota this weekend.

"What Your Mother and Your Ten-Year-Old Can Teach You" explores some of the ways casual games are reshaping the Massively Multiplayer Online gaming (MMO) landscape, and the lessons casual games teach about reaching a broader audience for multiplayer experiences.

"While interest in MMOs has been growing enormously the last couple of years, the focus has still largely been on traditional gamer demographics: hardcore players (WOW, Eve) and do-it-yourself enthusiasts (Second Life)," says Nick Fortugno, Co-Founder and CCO of Rebel Monkey. "But the latest areas of commercial success and game innovation have come from a totally different direction: web-based multiplayer games for casual gamers. Games and portals from Club Penguin to Pogo.com to Webkinz are expanding the idea of what a massive-multiplayer experience can be, and reaping the commercial benefits."

Established in 2007, Rebel Monkey was co-founded by game industry luminaries Margaret Wallace, whose past ventures include Skunk Studios in San Francisco, and Nick Fortugno, who was notably Lead Designer of the original Diner Dash game. Currently, the company, which raised $1 million in Series A financing from Redpoint Ventures, of Menlo Park, CA, is revving up to release its first projects in the near future.

The Indie MMO Game Developers Conference (IMGDC) champions itself in bringing independent game designers and developers together to share ideas and network. This is the second year of the IMGDC, repeated again after a hugely successful first conference last year. Further details on the IMGDC can be found at www.imgdc.com.

"What Your Mother and Your Ten-Year-Old Can Teach You" will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2008, in the Minneapolis Convention Center.
