PET is on the roll with upward demand, higher growth and expanding application. Market remains positive with Asia continuing to be the cardinal lifeline vivaciously strengthening its stand globally. As reported in an ICIS Chemical Business article -- "PET Demand growth has continued to do better than GDP growth in all recent years as new PET applications are directed to replace other materials, chiefly glass and metal. PET solid-state resins are expected to grow by 7%/year, followed by polyester fibers and PET engineering resins at 5% and 4% respectively."
The onset of PET application in beer bottling in Asia has partly contributed to the increasing market demand for PET. There are various ways to improve barrier properties of a PET bottle, from spray coatings to utilising multilayer structures, making PET an indispensable choice in beverage packaging.
Is Asia ready for the new beer packaging technology and latest PET applications directed to replace glass and plastics? CMT's 15th Global/Asia PET Conference to be held on the 13-14 May 2008 in Shanghai aims to answer this question by looking at traditional and new application trends in PET industry, as well as examine the latest technologies and demand challenges.
CMT is bringing together a group of panellists from M&G Finanziaria, China Resources Breweries and Tsingtao Brewery to evaluate the challenges of packaging beer in PET and its cost effectiveness. In addition to this panel discussion, Mr Giovanni Bolcheni, CEO for M&G Finanziaria will deliver a separate presentation to elaborate further the evolution in technology for beer in PET, its trends and market share projection for beer packaging in PET for Asia Pacific.
Other key topics to be discussed at this event include a presentation on "New waves in PET sorting and separating; from plastic bottles to PET-flake" by Mr Peter Mayer from S+S Separation & Sorting Technology GmbH; a paper on "PET demand and capacity in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan" by Mr Evengi Gorokhov, CEO for RETAL Industries; an overview on "Chinese PET Industry, current challenges and future strategy" to be provided by Jiangsu Sanfangxiang, one of China's biggest resin producers; an insightful testimony on the vast potential of India's PET bottling industry by Amcor, the leading packaging company for the global beverage industry and a consumer perspective on "Technologies and regulations for food contact applications" by one of the major beverage companies in the world, Coca Cola.
