The Web Marketing Association, host of leading website awards competition WebAwards (WebAward08.org), recently released the Internet Standards Assessment Report (ISAR), which includes specific benchmarking data to help the events industry take their web design to the next level.
"As the standard of excellence for websites continues to increase, web visitors are increasingly picky about what they consider to be an effective website," said William Rice, president of the Web Marketing Association. "Event websites going forward will need to expand their use of technology, as their web visitors desire both an informative and entertaining experience upon arriving at the website."
The WebAwards competition evaluates event websites on seven criteria that combined create effective websites:
- Ease of use
Events Web sites have generally been in line with the ISAR index; however, with the exception of a strong 2003, they consistently match the index on the underperforming side. These below index average scores resulted in the industry scoring below the 5-year criteria benchmark scores in all areas. According to the study, events Web sites are strongest in content, copywriting, and ease of use.
The 2007 WebAward for Best Event Web site went to RED Interactive Agency for UFC 66: Liddell vs. Ortiz.
Other past Best Event Website winners include:
- 2006 Zooma by Semcon for the Rogers FIFA World Cup 06 website
- 2005 Fingerprint Interactive for The Microsoft PDC Website
- 2004 Arnold Worldwide for Pods Unite
- 2003 Travers Collins & Company for Buffalo Niagra's One Summerlong Sensation
- 2002 Creative Producers Group for Sprint Agents of Change
- 2001 Arnold Worldwide for Autoshow 2001
- 2000 Siegelgale for The Crave Conference
- 1999 Stackig/TMPW for SUPERCOMM 99
Companies and organizations wishing to have their events services Web site evaluated against the ISAR Index and be considered for a WebAward, which can help boost a Website's credibility and marketing efforts, can learn more at WebAward08.org.
