Kentucky Nurses to Host Dr. Barbara Dossey at the "Holistic Health & Healing Conference" in Louisville, KY on May 17, 2008

This era of complex health care challenges new ways of integrating the art and science of healing. As nurses are in more demand, this conference urges greater awareness toward the responsibility for self-care in health settings. Providers are encouraged to identify how to integrate technology, mind and spirit into clinical practice. This May 17, 2008 KHNA Conference culminates National Nurses Week (May 6-12) and urges greater recognition of nursing's contribution to holism: The Florence Nightingale Legacy.

Louisville, Kentucky (PRWEB) April 7, 2008 -- The KYANA Holistic Nursing Association www.khna.net, a local network of the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) invites nurses, professionals and other practitioners committed to holistic healthcare to attend The 2nd Annual Holistic Health & Healing Conference on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the Indiana University Southeast. This day celebrates the legacy of the nursing profession and the approaches that incorporate holistic health philosophy in education and practice.

KHNA and Co-sponsor, Indiana University Southeast School of Nursing are delighted to host Barbara Dossey, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN as the keynote speaker for the conference. Dr. Barbara Dossey is internationally recognized "as a trailblazer in holistic nursing and a leader and authority in the field." See www.dosseydossey.com.

The all-day event will connect 400 attendees with regional experts in (CAM) Complementary Alternative Modalities. Each will sample individual and group complementary modalities used in practice settings. These include: Yoga, Tai Chi, Guided Imagery, Laughter Yoga, Reiki, Aromatherapy, Centering Prayer, HeartMath Biofeedback, Zhineng Qigong, Flower Essences, Toning/Chanting/Drumming, Belly Dancing Spirituality and Body Work Therapies.

In December of 2006, Holistic Nursing was officially recognized by the American Nurses Association (ANA) as a nursing specialty with a defined scope and standards of practice, acknowledging holistic nursing's unique contributions to the health and healing of people and society. Specialty status provides holistic nurses with clarity and a foundation for their practice, and strengthens the voice of the entire profession.

KHNA is honored to have Norton Healthcare as the Primary Event Sponsor and Floyd Memorial Hospital as a Supporting Sponsor. Both healthcare institutions are working to become recognized for their integration of holistic healing methods within their hospital nursing staff and network. Attendance to this event will earn nursing contact hours for continuing education requirements. Registration to "The Florence Nightingale Legacy Event" is at www.khna.net. Discounts for early registration by April 18 and KHNA Membership are offered.
