Americas Watchdog Launches National Investigation On Vytorin & Zetia
Americas Watchdog is launching a U.S. investigation involving the effectiveness of the cholesterol medications called Vytorin and Zetia. The question becomes, were these drugs as effective as portrayed on national television advertising? According to news reports released on March 31, 2008 they were not. Americas Watchdog is one of the leaders in investigating the heart medication called Trasylol & if it was in fact responsible for the deaths of more than 22,000 U.S. citizens. The suggestion that 22,000 US Citizens may have died from Trasylol, was portrayed on the news program 60 Minutes. According to a recent press conference: Merck and Schering said that not only did Zetia fail to slow the accumulation of fatty plaque in the arteries, it actually seemed to contribute to plaque formation --- although by such a small amount that the finding could have been a result of chance.
"This is as bad a result for the drug as anybody could have feared," said Dr. Nissen, a widely published researcher and senior consulting editor to the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Millions of patients may be taking a drug that does not benefit them, raising their risk of heart attacks and exposing them to potential side effects".
