Re:modern Design Receives Green Business Certification in San Mateo County's Pilot Program

In fall of 2007, Re:modern moved its headquarters to Burlingame, CA at the same time that San Mateo County began a 6-month pilot program to certify local green businesses. Now in 2008, after thorough evaluation from city and county code officials, Re:modern Design became one of the first businesses in San Mateo County to receive certification as a Bay Area Green Business.
The Bay Area Green Business Program (www.greenbiz.ca.gov) first started ten years ago in Alameda County by the Association of Bay Area Governments. Since then, the program has expanded to nine Bay Area counties. To receive green business certification, a business must comply with all environmental regulations for its industry, and then exceed them in general practice areas including Water Conservation, Solid Waste Reduction & Recycling, Energy Conservation, and Pollution Prevention.
Ever since the company's inception in 2004, Re:modern has employed good green practices such as double-sided printing, non-toxic office products, and minimizing waste through reuse and recycling.
"Being a green business involves more than just recycling," says Founder Mona Ying Reeves.
