Hamilton, MT (PRWEB) April 2, 2008 -- Rocky Mountain Log Homes' Certified Forester Pat Connell was on-hand at the 2008 Elk Camp in Reno, NV, February 21-24, to accept a Stewardship Partner Award from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Connell and Rocky Mountain Log Homes received the award for enhancing elk habitat with the Spring Mink Stewardship Program.
The Spring Mink Stewardship was a fuels reduction effort between the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Rocky Mountain Log Homes that included pre-commercial thinning of dead conifers and slashing of 700 acres and the installation of 11,000 feet of fire line in the Bitterroot National Forest in March of 2007. After a prescribed burn in the spring of 2007, the area should be restored to its historical condition of a ponderosa pine forest covered with lush forage, making for a perfect winter range for elk.
