It is rewarding to see the service continue to grow at this rate
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 2, 2008
ZocDoc, a company that provides an online channel for consumers to find and book doctor and dentist appointments instantly, today announced expansion of its service into Brooklyn. Initially launched to Manhattan residents, ZocDoc continues to experience explosive growth with a five-fold increase in the number of available dentist appointments citywide. In Brooklyn, doctors and dentists are now available in Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Bay Ridge, Fort Greene, Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill and Downtown Brooklyn, with more added in the coming weeks.
"It is rewarding to see the service continue to grow at this rate," said Cyrus Massoumi, ZocDoc co-founder and CEO. "Demand for appointments on ZocDoc exceeded all expectations and we are focused on rolling our capabilities out to as wide an audience as possible. Brooklyn was a natural choice for this phase of expansion as residents there began requesting this expansion since our initial launch last September."
More than 2,700 users requested the service for Brooklyn since ZocDoc launched in Manhattan, and the number of scheduled appointments has been doubling month over month. The company plans soon to expand into New York's other boroughs, New Jersey and Connecticut.
"We expect adoption rates in Brooklyn to be as high, or higher, than those we've seen in Manhattan," said Oliver Kharraz, MD, ZocDoc co-founder. "Brooklyn residents are twice as likely, on average, to suffer from certain ailments such as asthma or diabetes (reported in the NYC Community Health Survey). They also tend to have more restrictive health insurance, so the ability to search ZocDoc practitioners by insurance is a particularly valuable feature to Brooklynites."
Dr. Martin Malachovsky, an internist with offices both in Manhattan and Brooklyn, sums up his experience: "Timely appointments are a challenge for patients and doctors. ZocDoc solves that for me and my patients by allowing them to choose an appointment within seconds. The patients referred to me from ZocDoc tell me they find it very easy to use, and they appreciate the reviews. ZocDoc brings scheduling for busy New Yorkers to a new and a very convenient level."
ZocDoc uses the Internet to enable consumers to make doctor and dentist appointments very quickly, often taking advantage of last minute openings. ZocDoc improves a system that, until now, was frustrating for patients, inefficient for dentists and doctors, and far too complex and lengthy for everyone. Additionally, ZocDoc features insurance validation to ensure the doctor of your choice is covered. ZocDoc also puts consumers back in the driver's seat when making healthcare decisions by providing them with detailed background information on all participating physicians and dentists.
ZocDoc is a NYC-based start-up founded in April 2007 by serial entrepreneurs Cyrus Massoumi and Oliver Kharraz, MD, who combine to bring 9 years healthcare technology experience from McKinsey, as well as extensive entrepreneurial experience. For patients, ZocDoc delivers an online service to find and book doctor and dentist appointments in real time, anytime. For doctors, ZocDoc is a new channel by which to reach prospective patients, and an easy way to fill open appointments, maximizing efficiency of their practice. The ZocDoc vision is to use the Web to make healthcare simpler. More on ZocDoc can be found at http://www.zocdoc.com
