Petaluma, CA (PRWEB) April 7, 2008 -- Using technology and the social media of YouTube, the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California is introducing a major website renovation using video at www.sonoma-marinfair.org to create a virtual fair. The Fair is unveiling nine distinct network players featuring a constantly changing selection of more than 100 videos. Visitors can now sample the 2008 Sonoma-Marin Fair headline acts with video footage from the bands, get a glimpse of what's ahead in videos about the World's Ugliest Dog Contest, enjoy footage celebrating fairs, or enter one of their videos through the Fair's YouTube website www.youtube.com/sonomamarinfair.
"The purpose of a fair is to celebrate and showcase the community. Fairs are social events and social media is perfect for fairs because of this. We're inviting folks to participate online, to, in effect, start their fair experience early," said Fair CEO Patricia Conklin about the revolutionary changes made to the site. "One thing is for certain, visitors to the Sonoma-Marin Fair site will not be bored."
Said Bob Kennedy, Network Producer for the Fair and web publisher of SoCooL.com, "More positives have been added to the Sonoma-Marin Fair website than could have been imagined, all through the addition of video. It's like the Sonoma-Marin Fair is happening now."
There are nine players featuring different thematic elements of the fair which visitors can select to view from a "Television Station" list. Each unique player is like its own television show, featuring a wide variety of changing video content from sources local and worldwide. In addition to the three network players listed above, the Fair also has introduced four YouTube contest players for Best Family and Friends Video, Best Dog Video, Best Exhibits Video, and Best 4H and FFA video. Prizes include fair tickets and parking to the 2008 fair and $50. The site also includes a 150th Anniversary of Petaluma player which showcases the unique and historic elements of Petaluma.
In addition to the new video component, the Sonoma-Marin Fair site already boasts a number of fun features that engage folks in the fair. Visitors can enter their creations in the Exhibits competitions online or discover what entertainment the June fair offers. This year, in celebration of Petaluma's anniversary, they can participate in online contests such as the Petaluma History Quiz or showcase their organization through the Historic Roll Call of Petaluma Businesses. One of the most popular features of the site has been the World's Ugliest Dog Voting Gallery where up to 80,000 unique visitors a month cast their votes for their favorite ugly dog which later culminates in the World's Ugliest Dog Contest at the fair itself. Fair lovers are able to buy tickets online at discount as well.
The Sonoma-Marin Fair runs June 18 to 22 at the Petaluma Fairgrounds. This year's theme is Home Grown, World Known. For more information, call 707-283-FAIR or visit www.sonoma-marinfair.org.
