Towering challenges to the continued sustainable development of the economy without devastating the environment require action today, not in 20 years when it may be too late. A change in mindset can bring massive changes to the environment.
"By taking into consideration, the impacts that the systems and building materials we use in construction can have on the environment, not just in the building stage, but also in the demolition stage at the end of the life of the building, and in its day-to-day existence, and making conscious choices to minimize the impact on the environment, we can take strong steps towards improving the overall health of the planet", according to Philip Mills Lutterodt, President, IMX Green at http://www.ImxGreen.com
Mills-Lutterodt commented, "By using alternative energy sources, eco-friendly manufacturers and energy-efficient products, as well as sourcing local green materials, IMX Green is able to lead the way in planning developments with the minimum environmental footprint."
Recently, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) presented a groundbreaking report, "Environmental Outlook to 2030". In it they urged countries to shift their economic structure towards a low carbon greener and more sustainable model. If no action is taken, greenhouse gas emissions could grow by 52% in 2050 one over one billion more people will be living.
While GDP is expected to double by 2030, it would cost slightly more than 1% of that growth to put in place policies that would cut the main air pollutants by over 30% and reduce the growth of greenhouse gas emissions to 12% rather than 37%, if there were no changes made.
Green building and sustainable design will represent a $45 billion market by 2010, with 10% of all homes built qualifying as green, according to leading industry sources.
