Bulls and Bears Duke It Out During Free Investor Education Workshop in New York City

Tri-State Middle and High School Teachers Discover Strategies for Teaching Students About Financial Markets, Building Long-Term Wealth

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 10, 2008 -- Over 1 million K-12 students live and learn in the money capital of the world, but very few of them understand how the financial markets work. To give New York City area teachers the skills they need to teach these vital concepts, the National Council on Economic Education (NCEE, www.ncee.net) has established a series of free teacher training workshops for middle and high school teachers.

As a foundation for building an investment education course, the workshops will use activity-based lesson plans from NCEE's Learning, Earning and Investing publication. Teachers will explore topics that include saving and investing, the markets function, investing internationally, portfolio management and building long term wealth. Each lesson plan includes teaching procedures, as well as reproducible visuals and student worksheets.

"These workshops will give New York City teachers the skills and confidence to implement a comprehensive investment education program in their classroom," says Kyle Christensen, Assistant Director, of the NCEE's new HSBC National Center for Economic and Financial Education.

With the generous support of the Moody's Foundation, the HSBC National Center for Economic Education will host this series of workshops at the Science, Industry and Business Library at 188 Madison Avenue and 34th Street. The workshops will take place on Thursday, May 1st from 4:00 pm-7:30 pm; Saturday, May 3rd from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm; and Thursday, May 8th from 4:00pm to 7:30 pm.

Teachers will receive a $75 stipend and a complimentary copy of Learning, Earning and Investing, NCEE's popular investment education program. Each session is limited to 30 participants, and teachers can register online at http://lei.ncee.net/nyworkshops.
