Supply Chain Excellence Showcased at Logicon 2008 with Featured Participation From Wal-Mart SVP and Best Buy CIO
As the relationship between logistics productivity and product innovation becomes more complex in an increasingly demanding landscape, consumer brands have been advised by industry leaders to re-evaluate the management of their internal and external supply chains in order to remain competitive and streamlined.
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 13, 2008 -- Over 150 senior level supply chain executives convened at the 9th annual LogiCon in Las Vegas on March 25th to benchmark against their peers and discuss strategies for supply chain optimization. The four-day conference covered topics central to the challenges facing supply chain executives, including introducing sustainability to the supply chain enterprise, operating in a global logistics market, and ensuring sales and operations planning corresponds with efficient execution.
Continuing its longstanding tradition of being the premier forum for thought provoking presentations and insightful idea exchanges, Steve Gordon, VP Logistics/Procurement of Jewelry Television confirmed that "Logicon provided relevant and unique insight into the current landscape of logistics and supply chain management - a must attend!"
New to the 2008 program was an entire day focused on sustainability, with expert presentations from companies such as Office Depot, Combe, Johnson & Johnson and Burt's Bees spearheading the cutting-edge techniques business' are applying to reduce energy consumption and create a green supply chain. "The Sustainability conference was excellent," said Steve Shelley of Schreiber Apparel. "There were several take-aways that our supply chain team can implement and see positive results very quickly."
Powerhouse companies are mindful that new sustainability strategies need to be rooted in a company's operations and supply chain management to remain cost efficient and gain a competitive edge. Having recently committed to a bold sustainability initiative in 2005, Wal-Mart, retail-mogul turned eco-pioneer, is charging their supply chain executives duty in the frontline of their business sustainability strategy. Disclosing Wal-Mart's modus operandi, Matt Kistler, SVP of Sustainability at Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., discussed in detail one example of the new practices in place - the packaging scorecard, an optional checklist for Wal-Mart's suppliers and buyers designed to reduce packaging and other waste.
Another highlight of Logicon's 2008 program was the final day line-up of discussions devoted to global logistics and transportation management. An interactive panel discussion led by Tony Zasimovich, VP, International Logistics Service of APL Logistics, explored strategies companies can take to help mitigate challenges and risks of overseas production, particularly for companies that manufacture in much longer lead times. Featured panelists included Jerry Darby, SVP, Operations of Combe Inc., Mike Haining, SVP of Supply Chain at PETCO Animal Supplies and Laura Whittman, VP, Corporate Compliance and Human Rights of Jones Apparel. While supply chain executives direct the lion's share of their focus on transportation efficiencies and product quality, Ms. Whitman's unique contributions brought front to mind the complex and sometimes overlooked issues of industrial relations - workplace health and safety, child labor, labor wages - with regard to outsourcing decisions.
In response to the delegation's call for more in-depth focus on the current landscape of worldwide supply chain, Logicon has introduced an associated premier event, the Global Logistics Summit which will take place July 28-30 in Westin Buckhead, Atlanta.
Global Logistics Summit 2008 targets senior-level logistics executives looking to establish and expand score carding processes to include and optimize partnerships with foreign suppliers, guarantee a new level of product quality, navigate global governmental regulations, and maximize their global value chain by applying best-in-breed practices. The program has already garnered a number of senior level executives from companies such as Circuit City, Jones Apparel Group, Home Depot, Nike, PETCO, US Chamber of Commerce and many more.
