"Mission to Mississippi" Wins Best Social Documentary

Filmmaker's first documentary is bestowed top honors at New York International Independent Film and Video Festival.

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 14, 2008 -- "Mission to Mississippi," a film that chronicles the emotional and physical journey of 55 volunteers from the New York area on their mission to reconstruct homes (and lives) along the Katrina-ravaged Gulf Coast, was awarded Best Social Documentary at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival.

The film was produced, directed and edited by Lewis Stiefel, narrated by CBS news correspondent, Dave Browde, and features a musical score composed by Adam Hart. According to Stiefel, "This film is testimony to the resiliency of the people of Mississippi who continue to cope with the aftermath of the nation's largest natural disaster and the kindness of strangers who are offering them hope amid difficult conditions."

"Lewis Stiefel is a talented and passionate filmmaker. The footage captured is a poignant reminder of nature's wrath and the fortitude of the human spirit and deserves wide exposure," says Stuart Alson, Independent Film Quarterly.

"Mission to Mississippi" will next be screened at The Cannes Film Festival in France, May 14 - 25, 2008
