2009 Presidential Inauguration Event Tickets Already in High Demand
Eager citizens are flocking to ticket brokers both online and by phone to put in early requests for tickets to the various 2009 Presidential Inauguration events. The advance interest is happening much sooner than expected, and earlier than for past inaugurations.
College Park, MD (PRWEB) April 17, 2008 -- Pre-orders for tickets to the 2009 Presidential Inauguration events are already flooding brokers through websites and by phone despite the Inauguration still ten months away. Ticket brokers, especially those in the Washington metropolitan area with previous inaugural experience, are not surprised about the demand. However, they are amazed how far in advance these requests are coming.
Tickets are being requested for the Swearing In Ceremony, Inaugural Parade, and several of the sanctioned Inaugural Balls taking place around the city. Interested individuals are using online forms on broker websites to sign up to receive an email once tickets are available for requested events. People are also calling broker offices to place their names on waiting lists for tickets to inaugural events, knowing tickets are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis, and they are subject to availability and a premium price.
For DC-area ticket brokers, this early volume of demand for Inauguration tickets is unprecedented in recent memory. Danny Matta, owner of Great Seats, Inc., in College Park, Maryland, has fulfilled ticket orders for the last four Inaugurations, and is astonished by the early interest. He notes, "There is already more excitement about the next president than in 1997, 2001 or 2005. People want to make sure they have tickets, because they know the events are historic no matter who wins." Matta also predicts, "If the next president is an African American or a woman, the demand for tickets and the prices they command will be record-breaking."
In 2005, ticket prices for the individual inaugural events varied widely. The average ticket price to attend any of the inaugural balls ranged from $75 to attend a less popular event like the Patriot Ball, to $775 for the now famous Black Tie & Boots Ball. Low-end Inaugural Parade tickets sold for $45 while high-end seats cost nearly $800 per seat in 2005. Swearing In Ceremony tickets were the most coveted, with the average seat in 2005 going for $250.
Ticket prices for the 2009 Inaugural events have not been set. Brokers are not ready to speculate where prices will start until the final presidential candidates have been confirmed.
